At Two Mile Hill Primary our Pastoral Team plays a vital role in supporting the wellbeing, emotional development, and individual needs of all children across the school. The team work closely together to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and valued.

We are committed to helping children thrive both emotionally and academically, offering guidance, care, and targeted support where needed. The team works in partnership with families, staff, and outside agencies to provide the best possible support for our school community.

We are fortunate to have additional specialist support available within school. An Early Mental Health Practitioner works with us one day each week, providing early intervention and emotional wellbeing support for children and families. In addition, a Play Therapist visits school weekly, offering therapeutic sessions to help children explore and manage their emotions in a safe and supportive environment.

Referrals for individuals and group targeted support are discussed during regular pastoral meetings, where children’s needs are carefully considered and reviewed. Support is then triaged to the most appropriate professional to ensure children receive the right help for their mental health and wellbeing. This collaborative approach enables the team to provide timely, targeted, and effective support tailored to individual needs.

Please speak to a member of the Pastoral Team if you feel that your child would benefit from any additional support.

Ruth Elborn EMHP (Early Mental Health Practitioner)

I work for a team called the MHST, an early intervention service run by the NHS and Off the Record, working in schools to support children’s mental health. I deliver a form of therapy called Low-Intensity Cognitive Behaviour Therapy over course of 6 to 8 sessions and can offer 1:1 or group work. I support children from age 5+ who are struggling with anxiety, worry, phobias, low mood or behavioural difficulties.

These sessions look at the links between feelings, thoughts, physical sensations and behaviours and its about learning practical skills and techniques that can help make a positive change in how the child is feeling. With younger children my work is mostly with parents- where we meet weekly and work together to support your child, but with older children (8+) sometimes can also do some direct work. You can find out more about MHST here, including a ‘MHST-referral’ poster if you want to refer your child directly for some support: Mental Health Support Teams in Schools (MHST) :: Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust
